Meet MC/DJ/Promoter JayLaTay

How did you get started throwing events/parties?

I actually started throwing house parties with the people I met when I moved to Philly. I have always loved when people come together, are able to chill, socalize, and meet new people.

The parties quickly grew and when I moved into a house where I was able to throw a Halloween party that had over 250 guests, I knew I was on to something and wanted to create a space for more so I started with Bi Sundays (a play on words), a Sunday party that happened bi-weekly.

What’s the most memorable event you’ve ever hosted, and why?

It would definitely be my 2018 Halloween Mansion Party!
The venue was a very obscure mansion located in West Philly which set the tone and the vibes for the night!

I always do themed parties and this was a Circus theme and everyone came dressed up.

I also did a collab party down on the water in Philly where I was the MC & DJ. It was a memorable time!

If you could host an event anywhere in the world, where would it be and what would it look like?

I am a huge lover of the beach! I often go down to the beaches here in Philly. I would love to host an event at two of my favorite places with beautiful beaches,
Cartagena, Colombia
Puerto Vallarta (PVR), Mexico

If someone was going to send you a cocktail, what would that be?

I am a Brown guy! Whiskey is my go to.
So definitely a Bulleit Rye with a ginger beer and a fresh lime.
I also love a good glass of champagne or pinot noir.

Luther Vandross – To have him join me and be able to live his best life would be a good time.

KeKe Palmer – I just love everything about her. She is always herself and is such a vibe.

Taraji P Henson – She is just so fun. I see us enjoying a few drinks, vibing, and just having a great time.

What’s your favorite way to relax after a big event?

Sitting around the house is how I recharge. I may go out t to dinner or I may stay home and cook. Honestly, not doing much at all. Just chillin!

Do you prefer small, intimate gatherings or large, lively parties?

I actually love both! It just really depends on what I am feeling at the moment.

As a DJ, I love more intimate gatherings. People are just more open and willing to dance which is what I enjoy watching and inspiring.

What’s your vision for the future of event hosting and planning?

Post COVID it has been different. I have been doing a lot of research, reaching out to promoters all over and they all speak on the new challenges with getting people out to events.

I see more monthly experiences occurring, where the more curated events take a lead.
